Dr. Alvarez is Director for Clinical Trials, Division of Gynecologic Oncology at UC San Francisco. He is involved with NRG Oncology, the NCI sponsored cooperative group for oncology clinical trials.

Louise Laurent, M.D., Ph.D.
2008-2012, currently Professor at UC San Dieo
Dr. Laurent is the Vice Chair for Translational Research and Director of Perinatal Research for the UCSD Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, & Reproductive Sciences. She is also the co-Director of the Center for Perinatal Discovery. Her research applies her expertise in human pluripotent stem cell research and genomics to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying normal and abnoral human development, to improve the health of mothers and babies.

Heidi Cook-Andersen, M.D., Ph.D.
2012-2017, currently Assistant Professor at UC San Diego
Dr. Cook-Andersen is a member of both the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and in the Department of Molecular Biology in the School of Biological Scienes. Her research addresses the molecular mechanisms underlying the transition from a fully differentiated oocyte to a totipotent embryo successful implantation of the blastocyst in mammals using both embryo and stem cell based models.

Marianna Alperin, M.D., M.S.
2012-2017, currently Professor at UC San Diego
Dr. Alperin is a Fellowship Research Director of the UCSD Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. Her research includes basic, translational, and clinical studies of the impact of pregnancy, birth injury and aging on the female pelvic soft tissues, as well as pragmatic regenerative approaches to prevent and mitigate pelvic floor and lower urinary tract dysfunction.

Sheila Mody, M.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Mody is the Chief of the UCSD Division of Complex Family Planning. Her research studies focus on improving contraceptive counseling and utilitzation among women with epilepsy, breast cancer and cystic fibrosis. She conducts randomized controlled trials investigating pain control interventions for family planning procedures.

Dr. Averbach is a member of the UCSD Division of Complex Family Planning. Her research focuses on novel approaches to expanding access to family planning locally and globally. She is particularly interested in new ways to implement programs that deliver postpartum contraception.

Ukachi Emeruwa, M.D.

Dr. Emeruwa arrived in October 2022 joining the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division at UCSD. Her research interests include clinical and translational research and community-level program development in the areas of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, malaria in pregnancy, and social factors contributing to disparities in maternal morbidity and mortality.

Dr. Teal arrived in September of 2023 joining the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division at UCSD. Her research interests are in the realm of community-engaged participatory research and implmentation science with a specific focus on health equity and advocacy.

Lindsey Burnett, M.D., Ph.D.
2022-2024, Urogynecologist and Assistant Professor at UC San Diego
Dr. Burnett completed her PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology at Arizona State University, postdoctoral fellowship in Physiology and Biophysics at University of Washington, MD at University of Illinois and completed both her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and fellowship training in Female Pelvic Medicine at UCSD/Kaiser. Her research applies her expertise in cellular and molecular biology to the understanding of how metabolism impacts pelvic floor disorders including pelvic organ prolapse, recurrent urinary tract infections, urinary and fecal incontinence. She is also the director of the Pelvic Health After Birth Program focused on understanding pelvic health in pregnancy and after delivery.
