Division of Complex Family Planning

The Complex Family Planning Division's extensive educational program includes teaching activities for medical students, residentsfellows in family planning, and junior faculty scholars. In addition to the regular curriculum, medical students are offered sub-internship and elective courses. As an academic center, we also conduct collaborative clinical and implementation research.

Our mission is to provide compassionate, high quality patient care, inspire and train the next generation of providers and advocates, and conduct collaborative research, locally and globally, to advance family planning.

The University of California strongly supports allowing individuals to access necessary health care services allowed by the laws of the State of California and to make decisions about their own care in consultation with their medical team. UC San Diego Health will continue to provide patients with access to comprehensive reproductive health, including abortion services. As the region's only academic medical center, UC San Diego Health has expertise in caring for patients with complex medical or pregnancy conditions. Our experts provide compassionate, high-quality care, as well as inspire and train the next generation of health care clinicians and advocates.

UC San Diego offers family planning clinical services with expert care from physicians who specialize in family planning. We emphasize helping patients choose the best options for their particular situation. Funding assistance is available for patients with financial barriers.

Comprehensive Contraception Clinic

This unique program serves women who have complex medical issues (including but limited to epilepsy, cancer, solid organ transplants, cystic fibrosis) and would benefit from patient centered counseling about safe and effective contraceptive options. In addition, we care for women who had a prior failed IUD insertion, desire removal of an IUD with no strings visible or have a non-palpable contraceptive implant.
