Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS)
The UC San Diego Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery provides comprehensive care for patients with a variety of conditions including abnormal uterine bleeding, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic pain, adnexal masses, and cervical incompetence, with an emphasis on offering minimally invasive and non-invasive therapies for these conditions.
Our division has 3 missions:
- Clinical care: To deliver compassionate, equity-focused, and evidence-based expert care for complex gynecologic disorders. This includes augmenting diagnostic capabilities through advanced gynecologic ultrasound and providing the spectrum of minimally invasive surgical management. The management options provided will include advanced techniques such as transcervical radiofrequency fibroid ablation, vaginal Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (vNOTES), and robotic-assisted laparoscopy. We utilize a patient-centered approach, enlisting multidisciplinary teams as needed, to provide innovative care that enhances diagnostic capabilities, shortens surgical recovery times, and lessens postoperative pain.
- Research: To advance research in the latest advanced gynecologic ultrasounds, surgical techniques, and treatments for uterine fibroids, endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, and ovarian disorders.
- Education: To train the next generation of medical students, residents, and fellows to be experts in our field.
