Executive Leadership
Dr. Cynthia Gyamfi-Bannerman is a nationally and internationally recognized maternal-fetal medicine specialist, researcher, and academic leader. As Chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at UC San Diego, she is committed to advancing excellence in clinical care, research, education, mentorship, and innovation. Her clinical and research expertise focuses on high-risk pregnancy, preterm birth prevention, obstetric complications, and improving outcomes for mothers and infants. An NIH-funded clinical researcher, Dr. Gyamfi-Bannerman has led and contributed to numerous clinical studies and has published extensively in leading medical journals. She previously served at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where she held leadership roles in faculty development and maternal-fetal medicine education. She is also a past president of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and has been recognized by leading national medical organizations for her contributions to obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive health.
